Our second to last day of noBerlinale activities!
12:00: Remote Control DEADLINE
- All entries to the remote filmmaking competition MUST be submitted by midday.
- We can't wait to see your films!
14:00: Guest Session: Lillah Halla
- Director and screenwriter Lillah Halla invites you to experience her short film Menarca (21 mins, Brasil 2020, premiered at Cannes Critics Week) and a live, intimate dialogue on the process of script-writing female characters that subvert foundational archetypes and cultural stereotypes. The centre of the discussion will be cinema as a tool for subversive perspectives.
- “Menarca is a biting film on every level, a reinterpretation of the myth of the vagina dentata ("the toothed vagina") and a welcomed feminist call to arms. The poison of toxic masculinity threatens Nanã and Mel, who are saved by a fish and a woman: Lillah Halla’s perfect high-wire act between the magic realism of a fairytale and a realistic, stifling atmosphere (ageless, though it echoes present-day Brazil) infers the very essence and turns up the heat before the punk explosion finale" written by Léo SeoSanto, Semaine de La Critique Cannes 2020.
- Join the dialogue on Zoom here.
All sessions open to all students.
